Alcohol Awareness Month 

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the role alcohol plays in our lives and to promote healthy choices. Alcohol is often part of social occasions and stress relief, but it can also become a coping mechanism during periods of pressure or uncertainty. For some people, casual use can gradually become problematic, sometimes without them even realizing it.

Signs that alcohol may be a concern can include using it to manage stress, drinking more than intended, feeling dependent on it to unwind, or noticing impacts on health, mood, work performance, or relationships. Alcohol misuse doesn’t just affect physical health; it can contribute to anxiety, depression, financial strain, relationship challenges, and workplace safety risks.

The good news is that support is available and recovery is possible. If you’re concerned about your own drinking  or worried about someone else, this month is an opportunity to take a step forward. You don’t have to wait for a crisis. Confidential support, information, and practical help are available anytime. Reaching out is a sign of strength and a positive step toward better health and well-being. Your EAP provides confidential access to professional counselors, substance-use assessments, referrals to specialized treatment programs, and resources for both individuals and family members affected by someone else’s drinking.

Stress Awareness Month 

April is Stress Awareness Month, a timely reminder that stress is not just a personal issue, but a workplace issue. Stress can affect sleep, energy, focus, relationships, decision-making, and even physical health. While some stress can be motivating, prolonged or unmanaged stress can lead to burnout, anxiety, fatigue, and health complications.

Workplace stress can come from heavy workloads, unclear expectations, financial pressure, health concerns, caregiving responsibilities, or simply balancing work and personal life. Left unaddressed, chronic stress can impact engagement, morale, and productivity. The good news is that support is available.

This month is a good time to check in with yourself: Are you feeling overwhelmed? Irritable? Having trouble concentrating or sleeping? If so, you don’t have to push through alone. Your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers confidential counseling, coaching, financial and legal guidance, work-life resources, and skill-building tools designed to help you manage stress in healthy, constructive ways.
